Habit and habitat: Trionyx gangeticum is a common fresh-water and pond terrapin.
Characteristics
- The body is flat, oval and encased in a bony shell. Skin is smooth and leathery. The body is divided into head, neck, trunk and tail.
- The Head is pointed with greenish or blackish longitudinal streaks. Lips are fleshy.
- The Head contains the eyes, mouth and nostrils. Behind the eyes are external ear openings.
- The dorsal surface is olive above and yellowish below.
